Shocks seem to be the hottest thing in the aftermarket lately, and the guys at Hotchkis have decided they are going to jump in with both feet with the introduction of their new APS Adjustable shocks for GM, Ford, and Chrysler vehicles. They are a bolt on, and come equipped with poly bushings for long life and include a Limited Lifetime Warranty. Developed after hours of testing with the Hotchkis SPS Shocks, the new APS series bring next level performance to those who need it. Check out all the details below, including some cool testing video.
Santa Fe Springs, Calif. (December, 2013) – Competitors are always looking for a way to better tune their vehicles to gain an edge in competition, where the slightest improvement could mean the difference between winning and losing. For serious enthusiasts, one of the best upgrades that can be made to their vehicles is a set of adjustable shocks that allow the driver to precisely dial in the damping on each corner to match the car, track surface, and their own driving style. Hotchkis Sport Suspension’s all-new Hotchkis-Tuned Adjustable Performance Series aluminum shocks have been specifically designed to meet these needs while still returning a comfortable ride on the street.
Hotchkis spent countless hours of testing on the road, on the track, and in the lab to develop a shock that meets the needs of the racing enthusiast. During testing, Hotchkis benchmarked data from OEM-spec shocks, performance shocks, and the Hotchkis SPS non-adjustable shocks on a shock dyno as well as a 7-post shaker rig. After going over the data, the valving for the new adjustable shocks was fine-tuned on the shaker rig to offer a smooth, comfortable ride on the shock’s softest setting and a more aggressive, race-oriented ride on its stiffest setting. All of this testing ensures that every shock application is perfectly matched to the each vehicle’s size, weight, and suspension geometry to offer superior ride comfort and excellent vehicle control.
Utilizing the latest cutting edge monotube shock technology, each Hotchkis APS shock absorber is built with a lightweight, smooth-bore, type III hard-anodized aluminum body. Internally, they feature digressive disc technology, a high-flow piston, specially formulated oil, and high pressure nitrogen for consistent performance under varying conditions and temperatures. Rebound adjustment is controlled by an alloy metering rod which offsets damping fade while a parabolic needle profile yields a linear range of adjustment across the 22 points of adjustment. Polyurethane bushings are also installed at each end for superior vibration damping and shock control.
Each shock features a half-inch hard chrome plated alloy shaft that has been heat treated for strength and durability. Every shaft is subjected to 100 hours of salt spray testing prior to use to guarantee it is resistant to corrosion. To prevent contaminants from entering the shock, the rod guide employs a wiper/scraper dual seal which cleans the shaft before reaching the main seal.
Like all Hotchkis Performance suspension products, the Hotchkis-Tuned APS Shocks are manufactured in the USA, come with all necessary hardware, and are covered by a Limited Lifetime Warranty. Designed as a direct replacement to the original equipment shocks, this bolt on upgrade can transform your classic GM, Ford, or Mopar in a single afternoon – unlocking the true handling potential of your car.
