Finally, some good news to report with respect to someone wanting to set up a race track and the local government’s approval of it. Richmond County, NC officials decided in a unaminous vote to allow a piece of property to be rezoned so that a sand drag strip could be built.
The land is located right next to the Rockingham Speedway, which is loacted directly across the street from Rockingham Dragway. It’s a true motorsports neighborhood!
As the story in the Richmond County Daily Journal reads, this move sounds like a win-win situation for all involved. The track will be part of a touring series as well as run local events. It is great to see that the local politicians saw the value of having people come from outside the immediate area with money to spend.
We’re putting the sand drags on our bucket list of things to do as we’ve never seen that type of action in person. Maybe our next trip to “The Rock” will also include some sand!
