New Zealand Bus Driver Crashes 10 Times in 18 Months, Gets Fired, Loses Appeal for Job Back

New Zealand Bus Driver Crashes 10 Times in 18 Months, Gets Fired, Loses Appeal for Job Back

We were certain after reading the title of a story about a bus driver that crashed 10 times in 18 months and was fired, it would be based in some American city. That just seems to be the way things work. We were wrong by a lot as this fellow was driving buses in New Zealand. After he was let go, he appealed his dismissal because after all, if we’re going to start firing people after just 10 crashes what’s next? No drinking on the job? Stop the madness!

We’re going to directly quote the second paragraph of the news story from the New Zealand Herald. “Alan Slater hit a bollard, a wheelie bin, a bus-stop sign, several other vehicles – including two parked buses – and drove the wrong way through a bus wash during his short career as an Auckland bus driver.”

You have to admit, the best part of that is the bit about driving through the bus washer backwards. You’ll never convince us that he didn’t pull that stunt on purpose, just for kicks. There are more gems in the story like his claim that seven of the ten crashes weren’t his fault. Really? Seven of the TEN were not his fault?

It seems to us that the bus company is damned lucky that one of the ten crashes he had did not involve a person being run over. The guy hit everything but the New Zealand lotterty and it is amazingly lucky that he crashed a bus 10 times and did not seriously injure someone.
