Normally we’d be writing about how you can add another state to the growing list of places that will crush your junk if your something really stupid in your car. Now we can tell you to add another country. New Zealand recently passed a law that will allow the government to crush the cars of street racers caught multiple times.
The government believes about 10 cars a year will be crushed. That’s not a very impressive number, but if someone is risking innocent lives with frequency, we suppose it is important to stop them.
We’ve always wondered how effective a tool these programs are in stopping street racing. It seems to us that the risk of massive fines and loss of license would stop only the hardest core anyway, so it’s great as a publicity stunt, but is it really stopping anyone?
What’s your take?
