JD Power recently compiled its seventh annual “Avoider Study.” This particular study looks at the reasons why people go out of their way to not purchase certain models or makes of cars. This is the first time that JD Power added a poll category questioning people about buying decisions based on the future of the brand of cars. As one would expect, those brands in turmoil including past bankruptcy didn’t do so hot.
Interestingly, “future of the brand” only ranked fourth on the list of considerations that people use when looking at new cars. Styling and price were numbers one and two on the list respectively. This tells us that the companies that are on shaky ground have done a decent job convincing people that either they’ll be around for the long haul or that their vehicles will be supported if they happen to vanish.
According to the story we found on SeekingAlpha.com, Ford came out of this survey the best with the fewest number of people saying that they would be far less likely to avoid Ford than other brands for the reasons examined in the study. Congrats, Ford.
