Paris Auto Show 2010 Coverage – 1968 Diamond Reo Unveiling

Big websites with stuff like “travel budgets” and “dress clothes” have sent reporters to France in order for them to breathlessly report on a slew of cars that will never see American shores. We’re not legally allowed to enter France anymore, so we’ve chosen an alternate path of coverage. See, there are lots of places around America named Paris, and we’re going to show you lots of awesome “new” models being unveiled within their city limits.

We electronically traveled to the city of Paris, Kentucky, to see the public debut of the much anticipated 1968 Diamond Reo cab over truck. Rumor has it the entire thing was designed by the company owner’s son on an Etch-a-Sketch. Judging by the fact that every possible surface on the thing is flat and square, aside from the headlight bezels we believe it.

The cab is made from space age aluminum, and can easily be repaired with 4×8 sheets of plywood when necessary. We asked a company representative who was on hand for the event about driver comfort. His response, “Driver comfort?! Are you blind?! Look at this thing? I wouldn’t wish a day in this rolling tool box on my worst enemy….oh wait, yes, we had our finest ergonomic engineers work on the design of this cab.” He was snickering when he walked away.

Power comes from a Cummins diesel and is transferred through a 10-speed Victory transmission. The wheelbase is roughly elevendy-hundred feet. That measurement was made without the aid of a precision device.

We can’t wait to see this revolutionary design at work on the highways and by ways of America!
