Paris Auto Show 2010 Coverage – We Spy the Next Generation Jeep!

After our ground breaking coverage of Diamond Reo truck earlier today, we had to search far and wide to top ourselves and keep this Paris Auto Show momentum rolling. We received word from a shabbily dressed, drunken, and confused informant that the venerable Jeep Wrangler was up for a serious redesign and the prototype was to be testing in Paris, Texas. We put on fresh underwear and electronically jetted there to see what was up.

What we found made us believe that the Jeep brand was finally getting the several dozen e-mails we send every day begging for more hardcore wheeling ability and less coddling secretary ability. They responded in spades!

We think the addition of Rockwell 2.5-ton axles that both steer was both sensible and totally overdue. Sure the 6.17 gears may not be as “commuter friendly” as the previous offerings, and their use of a small block Ford is very bold and may not make the production model, and the beadlock wheels aren’t legal for use on the roads in most states, and there is absolutely no top or protection for the driver, but we think that this is going to be a hot seller.

Kudos to Chrysler for finally building a vehicle for the hard core off road enthusiast! They even priced it right, under six grand! And here we thought the whole Fiat situation would be bad!
