Pat Musi heads to Las Vegas hoping to hit the jackpot in Pro Street.

Anyone who has had the pleasure of talking to Pat Musi in person, or who has seen him interviewed on TV knows that he’s one hell of a character and competitor. For this year’s Street Car Super Nationals, Musi Racing is bringing the same Lucas Oil King Kong Dodge Stratus that he campaigned at last year’s event, and won the Get Screened America Pro Mod event at this years Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. With success like that in 2010, Musi is looking forward to not only being the World’s Quickest and Fastest Fuel Injected Nitrous Pro Mod, but also taking home the jackpot win in Vegas. For Musi’s view on this year and this weekend’s event, check out his press release below.

Pat Musi Heads to SCSN Hoping to Catch a Win in Vegas

By Deborah Woodard, November 2010

Eight-time Pro Street Champion and record holder Pat Musi is headed for the Street Car Super Nationals with guns loaded and ready to go. Musi said “I think we really have an excellent chance of doing well this year. We plan to take it round by round using the consistency and speed we have gained in our set up as an advantage strategy. We are looking for a win to cap off the season at the SCSN and good momentum going into next year.”

Musi is the 2010 winner of the NHRA’s Pro Modified series in Norwalk running against some of the toughest door-slammer racers in the country. The event was Musi’s second attempt. He is the only Nitrous competitor to win the first professional category of the Pro Mod series. His Frank Brandao 903 cubic inch King Kong 5 Nitrous Stratus has run the best of 5.93 at 241.80 mph, which will undoubtedly place him amongst the top teams to watch. He said, “New doors began to open for us this season with our accomplishments and win in Norwalk, which has been very exciting. We are proud to now have Lucas Oil Products as a part of our racing team.”

Musi is one the nation’s top mile per hour runners in Nitrous competition and member of the 240 mph club. His unusually high mph gains are nationally unprecedented which should help at SCSN this year. The secret lies in his development of the Musi-Edelbrock XT-R EFI system. Typically, nitrous cars are the low mph runners of the field in the SCSN and other events where car combination entries are mixed.

Musi said “We have been working on advancing this new engine program for some time with the help of Edelbrock, Jesel, and a number of other manufacturers. In fact Rickie Smith, Troy Coughlin, and Dennis Radford are all using it now. We have really begun to turn heads demonstrating the amount of potential the XT-R EFI system has in Nitrous engine applications. I have been swamped with phone calls and orders for the 2011 season.” The veteran performance builder had a clear warning however for racers interested in his EFI technology. He said, “Other engine builders, companies, and copy cats are already springing up. Buyers however should beware. This type of technology is highly precise and something we have been designing for a long time. Copies are not the same. The real work has been in the programming. Sadly consumers run the risk of doing nothing but burning their engine up with these copy cat designs. I find it frustrating that EFI could come up with a bad wrap due to copy cats looking for a buck after all the hard work we have put into giving the Nitrous field a proven competitive edge and better tune-ability.”

Though Musi and his team are expected to be able to tip the fives in Vegas, he said “I believe we will see tough competition with a number of teams running equally fast. 5.90’s are realistic times this year according to the list of participants. I have been getting calls from teams not on the list that I know are fast” The SCSN has yet to really see these numbers in the Pro Street class. Musi predicted the bump could drop as low as 6.30 just to make the field. He will be joined by John and Annette Hall from Florida who will be running a Musi Performance 903 EFI Nitrous engine in their new 68 Camaro. He is confident that both teams can do well and is looking forward to the competition that the SCSN VI will bring.

Musi Performance would like to Thank Frank Brandao for his years of friendship and support. Brandao will be making the trip to Las Vegas for SCSN from his home in Curacao, Netherlands Antilles. Brandao is the Director of the islands drag strip and is the owner of the car in Musi’s racing operation. Special thanks goes out to Rickie Smith, Edelbrock, Jesel, Moroso, VP Fuel, Lucas Oil, JE Pistons, and Good Year Racing for all the help in the 2010 racing season that has contributed to the success of Pat Musi Racing.
