Pebble Beach Concours 2010 to Feature Hot Rod Lakesters and Historic Bonneville Racers

Pebble Beach Concours 2010 to Feature Hot Rod Lakesters and Historic Bonneville Racers

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is probably the stuffiest car show in North America. A few years ago the organizers created a class for vintage hot rods and this year it has been announced that there will be a class for vintage Bonneville racers at the 60th annual event to be held August 15th, 2010. We may need to Bedazzle Chad’s flip-flops so they’ll let him in to cover the event. Would a tuxedo t-shirt be inappropriate?

The cars that will be featured represent the early days of hot rods on the dry lakes and span the years of 1927 to 1953. That means lots of early cars, early engines, and great history. One thing that should be interesting to note is the fit and finish of the cars at this show. Reason being, ever photo and old piece of video we have ever seen depicts these cars as being spartan and frankly, kind of rough.

Nothing is rough at Pebble Beach, even the sand in the traps is soft. We’re just wondering if the cars are going to be completely over-restored or if they will be true to their salt speckled past. We’re hoping they are because nothing would be better than seeing a rough looking gow job just down the row from some Frenchie-mobile that looks like a motorized shoe.
