PRI 2012 – New Parts: Great New Aluminum FE Ford Cylinder Head By Survival Motorsports

If you are a die-hard lover of the legenadary Ford FE series of engines, you know that your aftermarket cylinder head options have been pretty limited. Pretty limited may be overstating it a little. You know that you’ve basically had one or options and that’s been an offering from Edelbrock and one from Ford Racing that have been out on the market for some time. Barry Rabotnik of Survival Motorsports, one of the biggest names in FE performance decided that the world needed a newer and better cylinder head option for FE high performance street engines so he worked with guys like John Marcella to create a new piece that is a large bolt on improvement over what is currently on the market. Best part? It is cast and machined right here in the USA.

The new Survival head really introduces some modern tech into the FE head. From spark plug placement to the shapes of the ports and combustion chamber, this isn’t a head that simply replicates an existing factory piece like a Cobra Jet head or something. The heads use a 76cc chamber, a modern heard shaped combustion chamber (if you have ever seen what a “normal” FE combustion chamber looks like it appears that someone stepped into the head with a cowboy boot heal and said, “Good enough!” There are 11/32 bronze valve guides, hardened seats, and port bowls contoured to accept 2.20 intake valves which will fit the “small” 390ci FE engine if it has been bored .030 over.

These heads can really move some air and when compared side by side with the competition, that stands out. They’re move nearly 40 CFM more than the competition at .400 lift, 34 CFM more at .500, and 26 CFM more at .600 and .700, which are at the extreme upper realm of what guys will run for camshaft profiles in street engines. On the exhaust side in the same range the heads are superior by 23 CFM at .400 and nearly 20 all the way up to .700. That’s bolt on performance!

Lastly, these babies will work with all commonly used medium riser style intake manifolds and all popular Cobra Jet 16-bolt style headers will fit them so the they’ll work in the tight confines of your classic Mustang.

These heads are available right now, so if you are looking for more power from your FE, hit Barry up at Survival Motorsports!

Another thing cool about these heads, they flow more unported than Barrys own “Stage X” ported Edelbrocks for less money.
Pro Ported they flow more than the legendary Tunnel Port heads….and “modern” plug location and combustion chambers are a bonus.

The Ford Fe guys really have something to work with here. Barry and John have out done themselves. More great parts for a growing market. Now lets see that manifold Marcella must have somewhere. Give it up John.

That’s pretty cool. I’ve kind of been struggling for a direction to go with my ’68 Mustang GT. Maybe I should pick up a set of these and build a 445 ci stroker out of the 390.
