BangShift.com has learned that a top tier drag racing teams with heavy ties to the US military has been secretly developing a revolutionary electric dragster that has already turned elapsed times within several tenths of current Top Fuel dragsters. The program is going to be the first civilian application of amazing new electric motors developed for military purposes. Their high output and light weight make them iteal propulsion units for a dragster.
Quoting an inside team source that we agreed not to name, “This car is going to turn the sport on it’s head, no doubt about it. The first time that name redacted drove the car he was white as a sheet at the top end of the track. He said that the sheer brutality of the acceleration when he stepped onto the pedal caused his vision to completely white out. Doctors have told us that was the blood being forced from his eyes by the G-forces on the launch.”
We understand that the team has made four laps on the car, which is hauled in an unmarked truck and trailer that is based in an unmarked shop located in the greater Detroit area. The team, while connected to the NHRA operation leading the development, has no contact with anyone but themselves regarding the project.
“The US military has developed a series of electric motors for use in different applications, some for peace time and some for war,” our source told us. “The motor and other components in this car are scaled back versions of the equipment that the military boys are using. The potential torque output of this motor vastly outpaces that of a blown, nitro burning, Hemi.”
The car is currently sidelined while the next generation of lightweight batteries are completed. Rumors persist that the car will run again in the June/July time frame.
Here are some renderings of the vehicle, leaked to us by the team member. They were masterfully done by IDMotorsportDesign.
