AMC made something other than Jeeps and the Eagle Wagon after 1982? Huh…didn’t really know that. Maybe it was because every station wagon AMC cranked out seem to come in the same copper-ish color with fake wood paneling slathered on the sides. A company that was always on the brink of failure, AMC did the best with what they had, and by the early 1980s the well-outdated Hornet platform was showing it’s age. After the Concord refresh in 1978, there wasn’t much to do at company HQ but try to sell cars while figuring out how to speak French.
Today, seeing anything AMC made that isn’t a Jeep product is a moment to celebrate as a car guy, because it seems like most of the Eagles and Concords are long gone or sitting, waiting for work that will never come. That’s why we lit up when we found this 1982 Concord wagon on eBay. The difference between the Concord and Eagle is only how many wheels are driven and the lack of fender flares and foglights up front, so there’s parts to find in case anything happens to this “surf wagon”, but there isn’t a four-wheel drive system to mess with and underhood, there isn’t anything AMC. The seller thinks that it’s a 350 Chevy, but isn’t sure and doesn’t seem too bothered about what it is or isn’t. All of the lettering on the car is vinyl and can be removed, it’s tubbed and it’s a mostly all-original paint job…while the gold color does look factory, the wood-wrapped hood certainly isn’t.
If it runs and drives, don’t mess with a good thing, right?
This is a great car, and so far, a bargain.
Neat car. I couldn’t grab the engine hoist quick enough though to yank the engine out though. A hot little AMC motor would complete the package!
three things that I would change post haste!!! the chebby boat anchor, the goofy mechanics hood scoop(faces the wrong way) and the simulated woodgrain siding, topping. needs a 401 amc powerplant with a flat hood.
The newest BS project car..Angry Tiki God ?
Get rid of the woodgrain on the hood and vinyl graphics then have fun! Can’t believe how clean the Concord for a 34 year old car!
put in an amc engine and Bonneville it.
I would remelt the chevy into something usable.
Man that went cheap!
Yank the Chevy shit and put in a hot AMC motor, then return it to a stock appearance as those big and littles look like shit on a station wagon. But not before you junk that fake wood paintjob…
