Long-Roofed Mile Muncher: A 1972 AMC Ambassador Wagon For The Long Haul!

Long-Roofed Mile Muncher: A 1972 AMC Ambassador Wagon For The Long Haul!

The summer of highway miles continues…I’ve added another 1,400 plus miles on the clock and while the Chrysler has been a very willing cruiser this year, there has been one bit of a hitch that I’ve found: Several crates, suitcases, coolers filled with drinks, miles of charging cables, and work-related equipment make for a tight ride. Reminds me of moving when I was in high school…cardboard boxes swathed in duct tape, milk crates filled with CD cases and random assorted crap I thought I couldn’t live without, and highway food that didn’t make me fat like it does now. All things considered, if I ever really wanted a station wagon, this week has certainly shown me the “why” behind the desire.

But what to choose? How about something off of the deep end…a 1972 AMC Ambassador wagon! This green example has some bumps and bruises, especially around the driver’s side taillight, but the interior is sweet, the 360ci V8 should pull it around just fine, and there is plenty of room in the back, especially once you fold down the rear-facing seats. You’re a Gear Vendors unit away from burning down every Interstate in the country in a car that at least 85% of the population couldn’t identify if their lives depended on it from fifteen feet away. Sounds great to us!
