We have ambitious folk in the BangShift forums. Most of them are spinning wrenches on their own cars and trucks, but rather often we see a project that falls under “ambitious”, be it a rebuild of a Duesenberg engine, the resurrection of a car that’s been left derelict for sixty years just to go on a roadtrip, or in the case of “SuperBuickGuy”, a new trailer to fit a need. I’ve seen SBG’s work in person…when he’s not pointing out that my car is a rolling EPA nightmare waiting to happen or is tossing around ideas on what to work on next, his hands get busy and things get done. Or, he at least acts like he does that every day. Either way…

After having a stack of steel languishing in the shop for a bit, the plan was developed: a 6×16 tilt-bed dual axle trailer. Could this be something easily bought? Yep. Would the bed half of an old truck, a hydraulic ram and hinges do the same thing for less work? Maybe. But that’s not SBG’s way by a mile. He’d rather take the time and build everything to his exacting specifications and be happy with the result, and that’s what he’s been up to for the last couple of weeks. It’s not as fancy as a blown Buick mill or as neat as his FJ40, but you have to appreciate the gusto it takes to say, “hell with it, I’ll do it myself!”
