Just when you thought it was safe to go outside, Project Fat Lane has begun anew! For those of you that have been reading BangShift for some time, you’ll remember that back in early 2010 we begun following the ground of build of a bad ass drag machine at Tube Chassis Designz in Hanson, Massachusetts. The car is a 1964 Fairlane that will be a Thunderbolt clone when done. Clone in looks only as it’ll be powered by a 2,500hp Chevy engine and compete in Heavy Street at events all over the land.
Construction began in 2010 and the car was going to be an 8.50 index machine with a chassis that could handle more if the owner wanted to step on it. Before it was too far down that road, the car owner decided that he wanted to go Heavy Street racing and plans were made to switch gears and have the car constructed for that class. Shortly thereafter, the owner bought a turn key Heavy Street car and put this project on hold. It had been in suspended animation since that point until the car owner sold the piece to a buyer who “flipped the switch” back into GO mode and the work has been cooking along ever since.
Originally, a ProCharged big block Chevy was going to be the weapon of choice but that also changed. The mill that you see in the photos that will power this 3,000lb + car to elapsed times in the high six/low seven second realm is a 540ci beast based on a Keith Black Olds block, topped with Dart heads, lit by an MSD 44 amp magneto, and forcefully fed by a Kobelco M5 blower. The M5 is a 14-71 monster that on a setback manifold required the boys to do some significant sheetmetal work in the cowl area just to get the works to fit in the car!
The car will be completed this winter and should hit the rack this spring. We’re going to be keeping an eagle eye on this one as the car should really be something to see when it is completed. The contrast of the Fairlane body and that massive honking motor in the front will be great. In a world of cookie cutter Camaros, Fat Lane will be a stand out!

WHUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ohhh yeahh!
cool fab awesome car but I just gotta say it needs a SHOTGUN motor or aCAMMER !!!!!!!!!
If they wanted a scrub they should have built a scrub,NOT A HALF BREED!!!!!!!
Why the setback on the blower? Seems counterproductive as far as flow is concerned.
