Quick Look: Here is the Holley Throttle Body Every NASCAR Team is Mandated to Run in 2012

Quick Look: Here is the Holley Throttle Body Every NASCAR Team is Mandated to Run in 2012

In the event that you’ve been living under a rock without cable or internet service, it may comes as a shock to you to learn that NASCAR is mandating all of their teams run EFI in 2012. This would seem like very bad news for Holley, which has been the only supplier of carbs to the series since 1969, but it isn’t because Holley is now the single source provider for the throttle bodies which will top Sprint Cup engines starting at the 2012 Dayonta 500.

While Holley is suppying the hard parts, it is McLaren in England that is supplying the brains of the system in terms of engine management. From what we have read the teams will have acccess to certain areas of the EMS to limit the possibility of cheating, etc. This is a new frontier for NASCAR racers, who have been tuning and tweaking carbs for decades. It is neat to see some modern technology wind up under the hoods of these cars. Will it have an impact on spectator counts and television ratings? Probably not, but hey, the gearhead aspect is cool enough to hold out interest, at least for a little while!

Scroll down for photos of the official throttle body that NASCAR will use. The guys at Holley are proud to be a part of this new era in NASCAR!

Very fancy…Love the big carburetor style return springs to make things seem more “familiar”…Nice o-ring seal for the air hat.
