Race legal is a California-based organization that was started to battle the ever-present street racing problem in SoCal. Their major claim to fame is the fact that they operate a makeshift drag strip in the parking lot of San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium. It is the closest thing that residents have to a legal track by a lot.
We ran across a story from the Union-Tribune newspaper that took at look at Race Legal and how they are doing to survive an economic environment that has really taken its toll on these types of organizations.
The good news is that Race Legal is still alive and well. The belt is a lot tighter and former luxuries have been abandoned in favor of a more basic approach. Volunteer labor takes a spot of duties paid employees may have had a couple of years ago.
We think that their work is important and judging by the fact the story claims they average 200 cars per meet at their “strip” in the Qualcomm parking lot, their cause is a good one.
