Racing Junk Find: A Restored Fuelie 1957 Chevy

Racing Junk Find: A Restored Fuelie 1957 Chevy

Back in 1957, if you were a forward thinking BangShifter, you would have headed into your local Chevy dealer and thrown cash down for one of the hot Chevrolets with fuel injection. Since we’re far more shoebox than Corvette, we’d have scored a car nearly identical to the one we found for sale on Racing Junk. This screaming red example would have been amongst the hottest factory rides in down, back in ’57.

This car has been restored to virtually perfect condition, with an exception being the addition of modern disc brakes to aid in stopping. The original brakes and components are provided with the car, just in case the new owner wants to set it back to 100% factory condition.

About 1,500 1957 Chevys (not including Corvettes) rolled off the assembly line with Rochester’s “Ram Jet” fuel injection bolted to the tops of their engines. Over time, through natural attrition and from guys swapping carbs back onto the engines, the Rochester mechanical fuel injection units have become very rare. Even more rare, is a car like this, which is a fuelie that has retained all the factory parts and pieces, unmolested.

Packing the three-speed manual transmission, this car was built to go and would make for a really fun cruiser. Cars like this make us wish old steel could talk. This 1957 Chevy probably has some stories to tell!

Is this Bangshift certified as a real Fuelie car? Why thank you, too bad whoever restored it installed the wrong tires, 1950s didn’t have those whitewalls, sorry. Anyone who would present it as such is not up to speed. Need some outside expert verification.

We love ya! Keep it up, BANGSHIFT approved!!!
