Racing Junk Find: A Super Clean, Turbocharged 1970 Duster

Racing Junk Find: A Super Clean, Turbocharged 1970 Duster

When we first saw this car on RacingJunk we thought it was a clean Duster. Once we learned it had a 440 in it with a single 88mm turbo, we dove straight into the photo gallery. The car would be a dastardly sleeper by hiding the roll bar a little more and making sure no one opened up the hood.

The ad is light on specifics regarding the engine guts, but just in seeing the quality of the turbo plumbing and how nicely the whole thing is all packaged up, this was a job done by professionals. We do like how the guy writes in the ad, “This is a very fun car.” Like the outside and engine bay, the interior is neat and clean. The car is a zero frills machine, and that suits us just fine.

The only immediate change we’d make would be in the wheel/tire package. We go more drag race oriented than the current setup. This thing would look rad with a set of 275 Drag Radials under the rear and some skinnies up front!

. . . screamin’ for some widened Mopar Rallye wheels or Magnum 500s. Mustang Bullitt-style wheels are cheap but look a bit out of place.

(might want to pipe the import tuner blow-off valve back into the turbo inlet so that there won’t be any rude “phfft, phfft” noises to tip off the unwary).

Really screaming for an EFI setup. I don’t like the fact that you have the big hood scoop and then the hood is cut to make room for the charge piping to the carb. I like to keep things under the hood, lower chance of attracting unwanted attention.

Ya, because a fluorescent orange duster with “440” plastered across the quarter panels is such a sleeper otherwise…

This was formerly my car. I bought it from a guy who owned it for 18 years. It was all primered then and had the base 440. I did the paint and body work and interior. Then traded it to a guy in Kentucky who put the turbo on it. The car is laser straight and very fun for sure! When I had it it had 275 drag radials on Weld Racing rims and 3/12 skinnys in the front on matching Welds.
