Racing Junk Find: A Totally Awesome Modified 5-Ton Army Truck!

Racing Junk Find: A Totally Awesome Modified 5-Ton Army Truck!

They had us at 52-inch radials. This giant and customized five ton military truck won the “Current Truck” class at the 2011 Autorama, and we hope it was a clean sweep in the voting. With the screaming green paint, custom air suspension, ability to crush entire towns with impunity, and cruising speed of 60mph, this is the perfect truck.

The photo you can see below, shows the engine and uses a cute female student (the truck was apparently built as a college project) nestled up beside the diesel mill in the front of the truck. The engine is a very large Cummins that measures out to 855ci and churns out 250hp along with four digit torque. All that power heads through a five speed OD trans which is also hooked to a multiple speed transfer case. On thing you may miss, which makes the truck look “cleaner” was the relocation of the exhaust under the truck, eliminating the smoke stack from the equation.

The front and rear fenders are custom pieces, there’s lots of diamond plate protection and boxes, all kinds of cool redundant systems, and again, the 52-friggin-inch tires which make one hell of a first impression.

Got $65,000 and a hankering for a truck that a bazooka wouldn’t dent? Hell, even if you don’t, hit the link below to check this beast out!
