Racing Junk Find: A Complete, Turn Key, Modern Front Motor Top Fuel Car

While trolling around RacingJunk.com and oogling stuff we cannot afford and have no business owning even if we could, we stumbled upon an ad that has a complete front engine top fuel dragster, of the modern style for sale. We believe that this is Butch Blair’s car due to the paint scheme and the familiar Indian that can be spotted at the rear of the body by the slicks in a couple of the photos. For $75,000 out the door you could pick this thing up and hit the drag strip with it. How awesome would that be?

As you would expect the car has a Hemi in it, a 430ci Donovan based engine with all the good stuff in it like Arias pistons, GRP rods, AJPE billet heads, Engle cam, the regulated 6-71 blower (this one is a Kobelco), a bunch of different pulleys, etc. Literally, everything one would need to fire this car and hustle it down the track is included for the sale price. If you have a whole $100K burning a hole in your pocket…and that would be a large pocket, you can also buy all the spares and parts inventory which is about half a mile long! Blocks, cranks, heads, blowers, etc. Buying the parts inventory would at least get you a second pass after you melted the thing into a puddle of aluminum or blew it to smithereens during attempt one.

With the exploding popularity of Nostalgia Funny Cars, the Top Fuel Dragsters that really served to get this whole serious nostalgia movement rolling have become the supporting class rather than the feature class that they were during the 1990s and early part of the 2000s. Several Top Fuel guys have defected to the floppers because that’s where the action is these days. If you watch the March Meet or NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion on BangShift, you know that dozens upon dozens of the nostalgia floppers are showing up to these races now and the number of dragsters is on the wane. This seems like a smoking deal for someone looking to make the investment and run a front motored fuel car. They remain timeless and awe inspiring machines. Hell, this bastard looks like it is rolling at 250MPH sitting still in front of the shop in the photos!

If every reader sent us a buck…

Yep, that’s Butch’s car. Just the front of the body missing since he had it rebuilt after John Weaver hit the wall at Bakersfield a while back. Butch always had nice stuff in his cars. A deal for sure if you want to go that way!
