Racing Junk Find: A Rick Jones Built 1968 Barracuda With Modern Pro Stock Power!

Racing Junk Find: A Rick Jones Built 1968 Barracuda With Modern Pro Stock Power!

Well this is full on bad-assery to the highest order here! A classic 1968 Barracuda stuffed with a 500ci modern Pro Stock engine and all kinds of full boogie chassis work from Rick Jones Race Cars in Illinois. Sadly, this car was being built for a man who passed away before it was completed so now that the car is done, Jones is selling it for the man’s widow. The car was a three year project and since Jones’s shop is known world wide for churning out some of the quickest and fastest door slammer drag machines on the planet, we’re sure the work it top shelf.

Outside of the cool looks that mimic a 1968 Hurst Hemi Barracuda, the real story here is the engine. Instead of any old Hemi, this wild bastard is powered by a 500ci, 1300hp, naturally aspirated Pro Stock engine that is topped with magnesium valve covers and a pair of full boogie Bob Book racing carbs. The engine is backed by a Coan built Turbo 400 with a Coan converter. A Ford 9-inch rear end is mounted via four link to the chassis. There’s an anti-roll bar back there along with a host of Mark Williams components. The front end has tubular a-arms and Strange components throughout. The headers and exhaust are all stainless, and Mickey Thompson tires and wheels live on all four corners of the car.

We have no idea how the Pro Stock engine drives on the street or how streetable this whole thing would be. There’s nothing to lead us to believe that the car would not be cool to drive on the street and the ad makes a point to mention that all of the necessary equipment to make this a street car is present and operational.

We think someone should pony up the dough and take it on Drag Week!

  1. Chassisman

Only thing that sucks is the door bars won’t pass tech…….too low…..might slip past a few tracks…..but not serious tech guys…..especially with that kind of power.
