Hey, if we’re talking about suspensions that make classic American cars carve corners, let’s look at one that has been set up to do just that! This 1966 Mustang has been a competitor and winner in the American Iron Vintage class of NASA road racing. It looks beautiful and has all the right parts and pieces to really be a hoot on the track.
The car has a 331ci SBF stroker engine that makes 325hp to the rear tires which we believe is what the class rules allow. That engine is backed by a TKO 5-speed manual transmission and a nine-inch Ford rear end with 4.10 gears. There are 12/13-inch disc brakes all around and the car has shed some pounds with Lexan windows and some Shelby fiberglass body components. It is cool to us that the little motor runs on 93-octane pump swill. That’s a great way to manage costs for a weekend. Race fuel adds up quick, especially when belting around a road course!
As you would imagine the suspension system has been completely updated and upgraded from front to back. The car has been a multi-time race winner at tracks like Road Atlanta and Charlotte Motor Speedway. There’s proof in the pudding for you!
