RacingJunk Find: A Big Block Chevy Powered Sand Dune Jumping Jeep

While cruising RacingJunk.com with big block Chevrolet engines on our mind, we came across this wild Jeep built with the sand drags and sand dunes in mind. It also has the honor of the single greatest classified ad photo of all time, as seen below. The Jeep looks like it is in low Earth orbit! We dig it because the stretched nose reminds us of the 1960s Jeep Funny Cars that ran so hard on the West Coast.

The formula here is really simple. In order to have a great dunes machine, you need a light vehicle, lots of power, suspension able to absorb the impact of major flight, and balls the size of church bells to try it all out at the limit. There is a full tube chassis using what looks to be 2×3 steel as the rails and round tube everywhere else. The large coil over springs may not be the cutting technology of today’s remote resevoir pieces, but we bet they work great. Up front there’s a tried and true rat motor spinning a automatic treanmission of unknown model (we’d betting a Turbo 400).

Our take? OOGA BOOGA – DO WANT!
