During a recent interview on Sirius satellite radio, racer extraordinaire Robby Gordon said that he will build a monster truck at his shop and compete with it in 2010. He is doing this along with potentially giving the Indy 500 a go and racing in Rally X at the X-Games. Gordon has some time on his hands because he will only be running a limited NASCAR schedule. We think it would be super bitchin’ to see a guy like Gordon hop in a monster truck. The man has proven he car drive virtually anything, so why not the biggest vehicles in motorsports?
We learned about this from a story on BleacherReport.com and although we disagree with some of the reasoning used by the author (like monster trucks begin very close to the off-road trucks that Gordon has been so sucessful off-road) the mere fact that this seems as though it is going to happen makes us happy.
Gordon trying to qualify a car at the Indy 500 would be cool as well. From the historical perspective, Gordon is a modern-day throwback to the Parnelli Jones, AJ Foyt, Mario Andretti model, and the Indy 500 is something all those men have on their resume.
You’ve got to admire Gordon’s tenacity. The man is a racer pure and simple. We bet that there are some good ol’ boys in the monster truck world just licking their chops to take on Gordon, because, at first anyway, they’ll probably be able to feed him his hat. Given some time though, we’re thinking that Gordon will be hauling ass and flying through the air with the best of them.
