The rumors are true. Richard Petty will be fielding an entry in the Indy 500 this year and the driver will be John Andretti. It’s very cool that two of the most iconic families in American motorsports history are going to be working together at the Brickyard this May.
Petty attended an Indy 500 for the first time last season. He’d been a fan of the race or decades but admitted that he was normally laying under a Stock Car on Memorial Day Weekend getting ready for a race and listening to Indy on the radio. Of all the guys who ran both Stock Cars and Indy, we were honestly surprised to find out that Petty never attempted to qualify a car or even spent much time at the track.
The car will be wearing #43 and sport the familiar blue and red paint scheme “King Richard” first popularized when he partnered up with STP all those years ago.
