Roadside Find: Whit Bazemore’s 1993 Fast Orange Dodge Daytona NHRA Nitro Funny Car Body!

Roadside Find: Whit Bazemore’s 1993 Fast Orange Dodge Daytona NHRA Nitro Funny Car Body!

(Words and Photos by Tommy Lee Byrd) – BangShift contributor, Tommy Lee Byrd, took the scenic route to Atlanta Dragway this weekend and stumbled upon a rare sight—a dilapidated funny car body sitting in someone’s front yard. The body had a small for sale sign in front of it, so he turned around to check it out and see if might be a candidate for his collection of weird stuff.

With a price tag of $1,100 he decided to pass, but snapped a few shots of it, just because it’s cool. If the “Fast Orange” sponsorship and bright orange paint job looks familiar, that’s because this funny car body was actually on the professional NHRA circuit with Whit Bazemore behind the wheel. The body is a Dodge Daytona, and judging by the name “Gary Evans” near the cowl, it was used during or before the 1993 season. Whit Bazemore and Gary Evans went separate ways after 1993.

All of the lettering is in poor shape, but the body is all there, including the lexan windows, aluminum inner body panels and giant rear wing. If you had a huge shop, this thing would be an awesome piece of garage art, hanging from the rafters! Any way you look at it, we just think it’s cool that you can see something like this hanging out in some dude’s yard.

Scroll down for the photos (and the phone number in case you want to buy this body!)
