Saab to Auction off Contents of Entire Museum in Bankruptcy

Saab to Auction off Contents of Entire Museum in Bankruptcy

In news that strikes us as kind of sad, it has been announced that SAAB will be auctioning off the entire contents of their company museum as part of their bankruptcy process. While we’re not Saab fanatics by any means, imagine if this were Ford or General Motors have to essentially bleed out the entire contents of their collected history to the highest bidder.

The guys over at Bring a Trailer broke the story and gave the link to the company that will be running the auction. There is some neat stuff in the collection as you can imagine. The big draw to Saabs historically was the fact that they built cars that were different in virtually every aspect from anyone else. They didn’t have the same shapes, styles of engines, or even interior designs that other cars used. They were one of the first companies to embrace turbocharging as a viable way to make power and GM got lots of interesting data from them when they were a wing of the General.

So yeah snicker if you want, but this story could have easily had another headline just a couple years ago when Detroit was collapsing on top of itself. Thankfully for us here in the USA, the darkness cleared before measures such as this were necessary.

Hit the link below to see the whole listing of cars to be sold at the auction. If you are a SAAB-o-phile, book tickets to get there now!

That IS truly sad. As you said, not too long ago it couldve been us in the same boat and that got me to thinking. Where would one even start and then even putting a PRICE TAG on any of this. Sure its not the same people that started it and what not, but neither is Henry Ford or the CHevrolet and Dodge brothers. but just sit back and think about it. A WHOLE car company is going away and it sucks. Keep on hot rodding and keep the cars rolling outta factorys everywhere!!!

Its a shame to see this, like these cars or not, sad to see something going on like this. I wonder if GM hadn’t bought them if it would have been different.

This is exactly why I’ve always liked Saab, a company that started their proud heritage building plane engines.

Yes, Sad. I was a kid fresh out of high school working at a Richfield gas station in Redlands CA. and I waited on a new car that was unlike Anything I had ever seen! Easily ten years (if not more) ahead of it’s time! A brand new Saab convertible. I dug it!
Sorry to see a proud manufacturer brought down like this. Yes, Sad.
