In a move that we thoroughly approve of, the SCCA Board of Directors has voted to open the National Championship Runoffs up to several National level classes that were previously not included in the action. This will help those classes grow as the competitors in them are not able to win a National Championship.
There are some stipulations involved, but they center around the number of competitors who have to enter and qualify in order to certify someone as a champ. Obviously, if one person in a particular class qualifies for the Runoffs, it doesn’t really justify calling that person a national champion simply by default.
The classes added were all able to compete for regional championships, but now that the allure of wining a national title will be present it should draw more competitors to them. Back in our SCCA days, running around in the budget minded Improved Touring class, we were only able to run for a Regional Title. We were hauling the mail in third place before we wrecked out. Ah, sweet memories.
