Scrapple, Your Guide To The “meh”-Worthy News! This Week: Goodbye, Gated Shifter, Gas And Diesel Cars In Germany (maybe) and Ken Block’s Confidence!

Pumpkin spice everything. Pumpkin spice lattes, cookies, pies. Pumpkin spice lip gloss, deodorant, shaving cream. Pumpkin spice 10W-30. Forget leaves, forget cooler weather, forget the real reason pumpkin is important around here…pumpkin spice rules all. Forget that. While we dish you up some warm Scrapple to enjoy, we’re going to go soak the inside of a jack o’lantern in lighter fluid. Let’s see how the neighbors like a Sleepy Hollow-like Headless Horsemen scarecrow…

1. Rest in peace, beautiful gated shifter. You shall be missed.

It’s official: the only way you’ll be banging gears in a Ferrari from now on is with a tug of a small paddle behind the wheel. Shame, too…even if Ferraris weren’t your bag, you had to admit that the metal, gated manual transmission shifters they used were badass and beautiful. Starting in 2017, three-pedal manual transmissions are dead at the home of the prancing stallion.

2. Quick, somebody call Yosemite Sam!

Yeah, we know, Texans like their trucks. So much so that the Big Three have marketed special models and trim levels to the Lone Star state, whose population would’ve bought them regardless. The truck pictured above is the 2017 Ram 15oo Lone Star Silver Edition. Take note of the little badge in the southeast quadrant of the grille. That’s the difference between the regular Lone Star and the Silver Edition. FCA brought out two Silver Editions to the Texas State Fair recently to show them off, and fairgoers responded in the usual method: the badges magically disappeared. Way to go, Texas. Way. To. Go.

3. Jaguar hires out to Feel Good, Inc.

All you need to know: Noodle is the guitar player for the cartoon band Gorillaz. A cartoon character from a cartoon band is now the brand ambassador. Just gonna leave this here…

4. Kein Benzin! Kein Diesel! Nur Elektro-Auto!

tesla-charging-plug

The short take: Due to someone (cough, cough, VOLKSWAGEN) giving the national face a huge, coal-dust colored black eye recently, the federal council of Germany is asking the European Union to consider proposals that would ban the manufacture and sale of gasoline and diesel vehicles across the Union by 2030. They are also pushing for a review and changes regarding how fueled vehicles are taxed, as a method of getting people to drive electric cars. This seems exceedingly rash and knee-jerk from this writer’s point of view, but when you have everybody under the sun going after the biggest name in automobiles from your own country (and Norway implementing an all-electric-car deal by 2025 nearby), we understand the inspiration. Don’t quite get the reasoning, though, and we wonder if any other member states of the EU will have anything to say about it. The Tesla plug doesn’t look to excited about all of this, either, does it?

5. Glorious, sweet glorious overkill.

hoonicorn-v2

Hoonicorn V2. 410ci V8, twin turbocharged and on methanol. 1,400 horsepower. Block: “When I say that this is the absolute most frightening thing I’ve ever driven, I’m not exaggerating. AT ALL.” Gymkhana 9, brought to you by Depends. ‘Cause he’s probably gonna need them when he throws this psychotic pony sideways with all four tires lit the **** up.

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

Just as well the UK is leaving the EU!

Hordes of petrol heads will be flocking to our shores in 2030 as those sausage eaters seek to kill every driver in Europe by boring them to death with their nice safe electric cars..

  2. Crazy

I’m sure those leaders in the EU have a plan on how to get the electric power production to a point by 2030 to handle that type of load??
Fire up the still, uncle Jessie.. no ban on alky burning vehicles..
