SEMA Creates 50-State Tax and Title Tool Box

SEMA does lots of stuff to help support, protect, and grow the car hobby. Their latest creation is the 50-state Tag and Title Toolbox the only compilation to date of the laws in every state you need to know to make sure your junk it legal in the eyes of Johnny Law.

This couldn’t come at a better time for us as we’re just wading into the murky waters of the Massachusetts’s DMV to get Goliath registered and insured.

While it certainly sucks that we are slaves to the man on this issue, it would suck far worse to head into the situation blind and not knowing any of our options. For instance, one thing we did learn is that we’ll be able to register our big, dumb truck as an antique vehicle, even though the GVW would normally force it into the commercial vehicle regulations. That’ll save us hundreds of dollars per year in draconian fees.

SEMA has done lots of good work all over the country in the last several years working for special designations for street rods, and custom built vehicles. Previously, owners had to engage in shennanigans and perhaps some slight of hand to get their cars titled and tagged by state governments. While that cat and mouse game is fun in some sense, SEMA knew that without formalizing things, states could deal very tough blows to people who weren’t classifying their vehicles as they should.

Hit the link below, and select your state. Some are clear cut and easy. Others, like our home Commonwealth, is about as clear as a minefield.
