Shocker! GM and Chrysler Immune From Liability Suits After Bankruptcy?

This story shocked us. It has come to light during Congressional testimony by GM’s leader, Fritz Henderson that Chrysler and GM will essentially be immune to lawsuits from people injured or maimed in their vehicles due to defects. The statements were made during the hearing that saw Chrysler’s Jim Press as well as Henderson in front of a Congressional panel on Wednesday.

Chrysler and GM will be held accountable for recalls and other types of safety repairs, but let’s say your seatbelt tensioner fails in an accident and you rocket your head off the steering wheel and are a vegetable for the rest of your life. As of this moment you can file suit against the manufacturer of the car but due to the bankruptcy filing and execution, when the package gets approved, you will lose the ability to do that becuase the “new” company, producing the same product, will not be responsible for the performance of the “old” cars.

Think we’re kidding? We’re not. Hit the link to the story from KHOU.com
