Ponysite.de is a Mustang-centric website that is full of all kinds of info, but thanks to reader Jeremy George, we were tipped off to the Trans-Am section and spent hours reading and checking out all the photos and history.
Mustangs and Camaros were the two main stays of the very cool SCCA Trans-Am series that was hotly contested in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. Manufacturer support meant that the teams were well funded, the cars were well built, and the action on the track was intense. Mark Donohue in his Camaro was always chasing or being chased by guys like Parnelli Jones and George Follmer in their Mustangs.
This website has a neat section that shows off some of the surviving cars that are still raced today and others that met their end in the past. Trans-Am was a pinnacle series, and the Mustangs that went to battle were pinnacle cars. Take the time to learn the history!
