Tim Grose is a name familiar to hardcore drag racing fans. Grose was a successful Nitro Funny Car racer for decades, achieving national prominance in the 1980s as a guy who could run with the big dogs on a shoestring budget.

Grose has been out of the seat a while, but his pursuit of horsepower has never abated. A few of you may remember Joe Schubeck’s “Eagle” engines. These were DOHC 900ci beasts that were originally intended for drag racing but were outlawed by the NHRA and essentially faded into oblivion.

Grose had some experience with that engine, as he had constructed a Funny Car around one before they were banned from competition. After leaving racing for several years, Grose was contacted and again worked with the engine, trying to find the limits of it’s potential.

Reportedly, these DOHC, 32-valve monsters are nearly indestructible. Grose claims that the engine has produced 6,000hp on a full load of nitro and showed no ill effects.

There’s lots of good info, photos, and video on this site and if you are as into motors as we are, these are going to blow your mind. How much do they cost? If you have to ask you can’t afford it.
