Snavely is BACK! Plus We Release His Epic Crash Video from SCSN 2011

For those of you who weren’t watching during our huge LIVE broadcast at the 2011 PSCA Street Car Super Nationals, you missed an amazingly scary crash. For those that were with us, you know the tense moments following Rick Snavely’s flying, flipping, disintegrating run in his Pontiac, and shared thoughts and prayers with all of us as we waited for news of Rick’s condition. Thankfully he didn’t suffer any life threatening injuries which is a testimonial to the NHRA and SFI rules that are in place for cars of this caliber. Out of consideration for the family, we didn’t play Rick’s crash video replay until we knew that he was going to be okay, and have never shown it since. We did provide the video to his family and team in order to help them determine what happened to make the car fly so violently. The great news is that Rick has made a full recovery and is back to his old ways. With Rick and Susie’s blessing, we are now releasing our video (at the bottom of this page) and also announcing Rick’s plans for 2012. Once again we are thankful that Rick is okay, and hope him and the team the best. Watching something like this crash happen in person is not the same as watching on screen and the gravity of the situation cannot be explained.

The good news is that Bothwell Motorsports, after looking at many new options for this upcoming year, have decided to team up with Turbos Direct as the title sponsor for the next two years.

Scott and Terri Rakestraw, owners of Turbos Direct, have been committed to the aftermarket performance turbo industry with 30 years of experience behind them thanks to key employees’s, Mike Merrell (sales/shop manager) and Mike Lewis (Builder).
Turbos Direct is committed to serving and supplying the industry with not only the standard performance turbo’s, but will also soon be offering a new line of small, medium and large frame turbo’s and accessory’s that fit their customers needs.

Bothwell Motorsports is also happy to announce they will be combining forces with Rich Zehring Motorsports to form a 3 car team.
Rich Zehring along with “Durable Rick” Snavely will handle the driving duties.

Their 2005 Outlaw 10.5 Mustang will have a new look, and be driven by Rick initially so he can spend some time in a car he already has many laps, in while getting his groove back on. Yes, there will be two completely new cars with the first one, a 1969 Camaro almost done, and the second ready to get started. Even the transporter is getting a new wrap. Team Bothwell, Turbos Direct, and Snavely are poised for a comeback fitting of such a great group.

Look for new updates on Turbos Direct website (www.Turbosdirect.com) and Bothwell Motorsports Facebook page as the team prepares to showcase and race with the best in the country!

I wonder if roof flaps like in NASCAR would help in these situations. It seems when any of these Pro Stock style cars get sideways or backwards they fly. Maybe all the air under the spoiler?

that’s a good point… PS cars (and their variants) are arguably the most aeronautically (sp) unstable drag cars around… i don’t understand why they don’t at least put some wings on them, i’ve heard they don’t want to ruin their ‘stock’ look… ha, as if… Glad he’s ok btw! that was a brutal crash

The reason for no wing is because of drag. These cars are so drag sensitive that they just can’t afford to induce any. In fact, a Pro Stock car is so neutral from 1000ft on that the corner weights are the same as when it is sitting static.
