TCI Unleashes Super StreetFighter GM700R4 Capable Of Handling 1,000+ HP!

We’re living in the greatest era of horsepower that hot rodding has ever known. It is honestly within the reach of many ‘rodders to make 1,000hp or more with available off the shelf parts and factory based engines. There was a time in the not too distant past that those power levels were reserved for only stuff burning nitromethane. Not so today where turbocharged and supercharged combinations are powering cars down the drag strip in record times and maintaining the kinds of street manners that gearheads only dreamed about in the past.

With all of that crushing power coming from the engine, the rest of the driveline needs to be up to snuff to handle it. There’s good news from the folks at TCI in the form of their new Super StreetFighter transmission which has been upgraded with some bomb-proof components and is now capable of handling more than 1,000hp. TCI has upgraded the input shaft to 300M material that can withstand the massive torque loads produced by engines at this power level. They’ve upgraded the 3-4 clutches as well as adding an improved sungear shaft, adjustable band pin, and extra wide band using TCI’s own “high energy” friction material and line pressure increases to keep things happy when the power is being put to the unit. Obviously, the 700R4 has been a boon to hot rodders looking for a deep overdrive gear that can help tame steep rear end ratios. We run a StreetFighter in Project Buford T Justice and have loved it since the install.

In the early 1980s when 700r4 transmissions first hit the scene they were a bit weak with the 27 spline input shafts. 30 plus years later, thanks to a company named TCI, the 700r4 is 1 of the baddest trannys on the market. It will handle 1000 plus horsepower while giving street rodders better fuel milage while crusing the street, and massive launch capibilitys at the drag strip. That my friends is what its all about……….
