Of all the questions we get asked about different companies the one that seems to be most frequently brought up is, “Where is their stuff made?” Well, in the case of Auto Meter, if it has their logo and name on it the product was made in Sycamore, Illinois. This video shows both the town and the operation of actually building the best high performance instruments in the business….and they are the best high performance gauges in the business. Auto Meter instruments are found in everything from street machines like our Buford T Justice project to the highest levels of racing and competition iron in the world. They’re built tough enough that those guys going 300 MPH can’t break them and they’re built light enough, with carbon fiber options, that you’d swear the box they shipped in was empty!
Often times the water is murky these days about where our parts and components are coming from, but in this case, the proof is in the video pudding. Auto Meter is in Illinois and they are committed to staying there. Judging by the looks of the place, we’d be committed to staying there, too. The town seems really nice!

That’s pretty cool, and triple bonus for staying in the USA.
Auto Meter is one grrrrrrreat American company.
One Saturday at the drag strip, I had a problem with my Auto Meter tachometer. I had owned that particular tach for seven years. Since I have a reverse pattern transmission, I need to know precisely when I have to shift.
So, I e-mailed the company Monday morning. Almost immediately, they e-mailed me back and requested that I send them the tach. I did so that day. Not only did they repair it, Auto Meter sent it back in time for the next Saturday’s race. The tach’s been working perfectly ever since.
I forgot to mention that Auto Meter fixed that tach for FREE. All I had to do was pay for the shipping.
All hail to Auto Meter and their [non-contingencied] Auto Gage lines.
Many of their gauges bear a tremendous resemblance to Equus gauges, though…
Is there a back-story here, Brian?
They are right down the road from me. I once brought in a tach that wasn’t working. They fixed it while I waited, no charge. Sycamore is just like they say in the video. It’s like Mayberry, except with a clay track speedway.
