Here’s a little sneak peek behind the curtain at MSD as the company performs what the military would call a “live fire exercise” with a race car on the company dyno. The crew down in El Paso are doing testing on a digital rev limiter tailored to circle track guys. We’re not going to lie and tell you what the specific needs of circle track racers would be as opposed to other hot rodders in terms of how a rev limiter is used, but we will tell you that this test is pretty intense and the stock car on the rollers looks like a caged animal.
It is pretty cool to watch the car pull and heave around as the driver is on the throttle, off the throttle, on the chip, etc. We’re pretty interested in the functionality of this new product and what needs it is addressing for the circle track guys. Not being super familiar with the hardcore tech in the short track racing world, we’re intrigued by this whole thing. We’re going to harass the MSD guys to get more info on what they are working on and why. Until then, watch this video because it is one of the more violent chassis dyno displays you have ever seen. This is one PISSED OFF car and it sounds awesome both on and off the the loud pedal.

rev limiter = traction control = cheating in dirt track racing
Looks more violent than it really is due to the rear axle geometry moving some stuff around. Still really neat to watch.
Although impressive, not as amusing as the Buford chassis Dyno driveshaft footage.
