It was a short time at the top of the sales charts for the Camaro. Ford moved 1,l294 more Mustangs than GM did Camaros in May. It is the first time that the Camaro has been off of the number one spot since it was introduced back into the market last year. A couple of reasons are being touted as the keys to success for Ford.
Top among them are the new engines available from Ford, specifically the V6 which makes more than 300 hp and delivers mileage of over 30 mpg. The Camaro V6 was village chief in that department, but now is playing a marginal second fiddle to Ford.
How can Camaro make another pass for the lead? We’re not sure, but lower volume units like a convertible and (potentially) the Z28 may help to elevate the car’s halo, but won’t drive large sales gains.
One point for the Camaro is the lack of factory vinyl wraps.
