It’s not quite as good as the title makes it sound, but Georgia Republican Senator Jim Butterworth’s has proposed a state senate bill that has been passed, and that may finally overcome a firm state law disallowing racing on public streets, paving the way for sanctioned, organized, Grand Prix type road races such as the ones held in several major metro areas throughout the country. Butterworth referenced the Detroit Grand Prix as a $65 million boost to the local economy.
Defying all logic, Democratic Senator Valencia Seay is fighting the bill because, according to AJC.com, she feels that the races would legalize speeding and work against the state’s new Super Speeder law. This Super Speeder deal went into effect January 1, 2010, and adds $200 in state fees to the speeding fines for anyone ticketed for running faster than 85 mph anywhere in Georgia, or over 75 on two-lane roads.
We don’t think Danica Patrick was the intended target for Super Speeder.
