You all know how much I love DIY shop tools, and this one right here is pretty cool. I would have never thought about building a hydraulic vice, but now that I’ve seen this one I kinda dig it. This one is very detailed and ends up being a really clean and cool shop tool. If you need a vice to hold stuff super tight, or if you are unable to crank on a traditional vice hard enough to make it really grip, then this one could be just what you need. The other cool thing is that this sucker is so strong you can really use it as a small shop press. You’ll see when the build is done.
There are dimensions throughout the video, and as I said it is a detailed build. When done this thing is really finished looking and with the exception of the hydraulic jack that is being used to power it, most of the stuff in it is scrap metal or steel drops you probably have sitting around. Even if you don’t, there isn’t $40 in steel in this thing and a hydraulic jack like this probably won’t cost you $30 at Harbor Freight.
If you took this thing and mounted it on a wall, it would be super handy.
I might have to make myself one of these.
