Garage shelves can be a pain to get right, especially if your garage is the typical track home style with barely enough room on each side of the door to hold a gas can. There is no wonder that there are a jillion available garage organizational products and that the number of shelves and cabinets is staggering. The problem is that with limited space you can’t afford to stand shelves up and lose the floor space in order to get the shelves up above that you need. And while there are some great shelving options you can get at your favorite hardware store, some of them are just too big and most are not cheap. Put the word garage on anything and the price goes through the roof.
When I have the room, I love nothing more than good pallet rack or the smaller versions you can get. But even the 18-24 inch deep models aren’t the right thing for the sides of a lot of garages, so you either have to live with something that is rickety and not very nice or you have to build something yourself. In this video you’ll see some pretty cool DIY hanging shelves going together and you can do the same thing yourself at home. I think this is a pretty cool setup and I like that it leaves the area under them open for other storage.
