We were surprised to see the response to Hot Rod Garage’s Cummins swap in Tony Angelo’s 1973 Dodge D200, a truck on a new lease on life after being spared the blade of Freiburger’s big-block hunt for the Dodge Charger we all know as General Mayhem. They had set the engine in and fired it off when we left them, and now they are going to address some issues here and there before they bolt the sheetmetal back on. A new Garrett turbo, a three-piece manifold, fuel upgrades, and a few more goodies to make sure that the 12 valve Cummins will survive in the D200 without bitching and puking…or worse, dumping smoke. Additionally, the 47RH overdrive automatic got some attention, because once the Cummins actually starts making power, the next thing to worry about is the life of the transmission. Once all of that’s done, it’s dyno time! We aren’t going to blow the news for you, but if you weren’t considering a diesel engine before, just take note of that torque figure. It’s low-buck, nothing too technical, and it will certainly do a lot better than a warmed over 318!
Tony is finding his voice and getting his screen persona ironed out, it’s cool to see him become an adequate DF replacement.
I still find him terminally. I zoned out so bad I barely remember half the program. I’m probably going to stop watching.
