Lazze Metal Shaping: How To Make An Early Ford Pickup Cab Corner From Flat Sheet – Part 1

If you’ve ever looked into sheet metal shaping, then you know the name Lazze. As someone who has always wanted to take the time to learn more about metal shaping, the names Lazze and Covell are always at the top of my list when it comes to prospective classes and How To YouTube videos. These two guys are masters of their craft, and thankfully share their skills and knowledge with the world. Because the world came to a stand still in 2020, Lazze didn’t get new videos out like we had hoped, but he did manage to spend the year working on his own ’33 Ford project which is getting closer and closer to being done. Thankfully he’s back at it and does have new how to videos coming out, with the first two for 2021 being all about building cab corners on an early Ford truck.

This video series gives you a close look at how Lazze lays out a pattern, transfers it to sheet metal, and then begins to shape the metal into a finished part. Begins is the operative word here as there are a lot of steps to getting this to be a perfect replacement for factory sheetmetal. While the factory piece would have been stamped using a giant press, this is done with hand tools, an english wheel, and a bead roller among other things. The great thing is that Lazze shows you his whole process, what the tools are and how to use them, as well as tips and tricks for making your own.

Watch Part 1 below and we’ll have Part 2 coming soon!

Highly recommend taking his in person classes. He is very talented. An excellent teacher and a very funny guy who will have you very far outside your comfort zone while having a good time learning. Still a fond memory a decade later. Lazze, if you read this..THANKS!
