If you want really nice smooth bends in square or rectangular tubing you usually need a mandrel bender, but there are plenty of times when you want to build something out of rectangular tubing and aren’t going to send off to a bender to make them for you. Instead, you can make your own, with a process that is VERY similar to the way many custom chassis manufacturers build their rectangular and square chassis sections. If you watched our last Make It Kustom video, you know that Karl showed how to make your own simple circle jig tool for plasma cutting circles perfectly every time. IF NOT, CLICK HERE TO WATCH IT.
In this video, Karl is going to show how you can use those perfect circles and some other sheet metal or strapping to make a complete rectangular tubing bend in whatever radius and size you like. If you are making chassis bracing, chassis themselves, or anything else that might require a square or rectangular bent tube, this is one way to go. You’ll also get some good instruction on how to finish these bends as well so they are ready to use, ultra-strong, and clean as can be.
Video Description:
On this episode of Make It Kustom, I show you how to make rectangle tube bends without a bender, like the ones I used in the Model A roadster subfloor. They are really handy and look amazing when used in any fabrication project.
Or instead of wasting all that time buy them ready to weld from Welder Series.
