When I was a kid, my Grandpa Lanning used a torch all the time. He was a master with the thing, and used it for way more than just cutting metal. As a guy who did wrought iron fences, he used them to heat and bend metal, but I also watched him use that same torch to heat nuts or bolts that were seized on, and also to weld sheet metal. He didn’t own a TIG welder, and the ARC (stick) welder he had was too powerful to weld anything thin. So he used the torch and a coat hanger to weld anything thin. Yes, a coat hanger. They were made from steel when I was a kid. And apparently they were as good or better than any actual welding rod. LOL
I ultimately learned how to use a torch from him, but I can’t say I was ever the most bad ass guy with one. So when I see someone who does really good torch work, I pay attention. Karl Fisher from Make It Kustom is one of those guys. He cuts almost as well as a CNC Plasma Table with one, and in this video he’s going to share some setup tips, as well as some other tips and tricks you should know to be your best self when it comes to using a torch.
Watch and learn.
