I like old vises and anvils and such. Hell, any old tools are cool really. So when I saw that Matt from Urchfab was restoring a cool old vise for his shop I was immediately interested…and then I saw the wall mount he was making. I’ve always been a fan of receiver style mounts all around my workbench, but this here is pretty cool for someone with limited space and could be adapted to work on any bench as well. This is a really cool heavy-duty vise that doesn’t have a swivel built-in, but that does have a quick release for opening and closing the jaws and I really dig it.
There is no talking in this latest video, just the process for designing and making the bracket and swivel setup, and then the process of going through the old vise in order to get it back into working shape. It was in pretty good condition to start with and just needed some good love and cleaning mostly. Check it out and let us know what you think. Watching Matt use his CNC Plasma table just makes me want one more and more.
Those four lag screws look a bit inadequate, when considering the kind of load that can sometimes be put on a vise of that size??? Looks OK just sitting there but I can see it hitting the floor when put to some serious use.
