Video: Lucas Oil’s 800 Horsepower, 515ci Test Engine

The crew over at Lucas Oil, including BangShift.com friend Tom Bogner, is always trying to keep ahead of the competition, which means lots of oil testing. “Oil testing” means horsepower and torque, and lots of time spent on the dyno at Westech Performance Group. Below is our latest dyno video showing one of Lucas’ test engines getting a pretty good beating during a day of A-B testing.

Lucas’ 515ci big-block Chevy makes 801.2 horsepower and 661.9 lb-ft of torque. It uses Sonny Leonard prepared Brodix Heads and intake, 12.8:1 compression, a Comp Cams solid roller cam with 278/286 degrees of duration at 0.050, an MSD crank trigger signaling a Digital 7 to control 38 degrees of total timing, a kickout oil pan, a set of 2-¼-inch inch Hooker dyno headers with 18-inch collector extensions, a Super Sucker 1-inch tapered combo carb spacer, and a Holley 1050 Dominator.

This engine not only finds itself on the dyno for regular testing of Lucas’ line of lubricants and additives, but also as Tom’s backup engine in his new Super Comp Corvette.
