Mitch King is a name that should be familiar with any nitro-soaked drag racing fan. The man from Galveston, Texas, who owns a candy business, has a Fuel Altered, a couple of Top Fuel dragsters and a nitro Funny Car. This video is of Mitch performing an old school fire burnout in his Altered.
Fire burnouts were popular in the 1970s and made for awesome photos for magazines of the day. They also make for a neat show for the spectators in the stands. The procedure is pretty simple. A crewman dumps a fair amount of gasoline into the water in the burnout area, the car is placed in that liquid, the crewman ignites it and the car spins the tires, throwing fire every-freaking-where.
There are cases of guys actually stalling the car in the puddle of burning gasoline, which got ugly, and it should be known that the IHRA and NHRA have banned fire burnouts for a long time. That may make this one even cooler.
