THAT WAS CLOSE: HOW TWO PHOTOS ALMOST ENDED UP AS A MAJOR LEAGUE BANGSHIFT/RIDETECH SCREW UP

THAT WAS CLOSE: HOW TWO PHOTOS ALMOST ENDED UP AS A MAJOR LEAGUE BANGSHIFT/RIDETECH SCREW UP

So I am a pretty mild mannered guy. It takes something pretty big to get me rattled enough that I go into spastic reporter guy mode. I got something “pretty big” from Chad yesterday via e-mail. What he sent were forwards of a couple inter-office RideTech emails. The problem is, those e-mails featured photos of a Caddy CTS-V that looks just like the one that Brett Voelkel, the owner of Ridetech owns and drives every day.

The first e-mail showed the Caddy airborne on a road course somewhere. Knowing Brett, I figured the RideTech team was out testing new components on the CTS-V. Those guys are crazy enough to take the suspension of one of the best handling sedans in the world and work to make it better and they wouldn’t be taking it easy on the car. Jumping stuff is certainly part of their MO.

I then got another e-mail with a photo of a CTS-V which was completely destroyed in some type of severe wreck. I freaked and started burning up Chad’s phone line to no avail (he is traveling with family). Just as I was going to call Ridetech and see if I could get an update on Brett’s condition, Chad called back and calmly explained to me that the photos were some kind of an inside joke between the guys at RideTech. I had already done by 2 2=5 “breaking news” story math and was about two minutes away from hitting the button that would have launched the item onto the front page and launched half the high performance aftermarket into a total frenzy. Whoopsie!

Needless to say, I’m glad Brett’s OK and the CTS-V remains intact. See the photos below to understand my panic attack!

NOT Brett's flying CTS-V

NOT Brett's destroyed CTS-V

The second photo is shot in the spring time judging by the leaves budding on the trees.

Should have been your sign from the get go.

ummm…neither one on those cars is really mine…
Mark Streilow sent me the first one…I think its actually him driving. Darren at my shop found the wrecked photo somewhere…glad its not mine!
I’ve got some sack when driving that Caddy…just not that much!

I’m quite amazed that you guys noticed the leaves on the trees but not the fact that the airborn Caddy has black wheels but the crashed one has silver/grey ones…

One look tells me it is not the same car. The wheels are different!

Let’s get the engine out of the wrecked one!!!!
